Greetings Cumberland County Republicans,

I am Chuck Ellis, the newly elected Chair of the Cumberland County Republican Committee.  I am very humbled by the opportunity to lead the biggest, most challenging, and highest opportunity County Committee in Maine at a pivotal time for our state and nation.  I am excited to get started and continue moving in the right direction and capitalize on the momentum of our national victory, as well as the seats we were able to pick up here in Cumberland County.  I would like to start my term as Chair by sharing an optimistic and realistic outlook on our county and our state.

At this year’s Lincoln Dinner, I spoke to likely future gubernatorial candidate Robert “Bobby” Charles about the state of politics here in Maine, and as is his nature, he was optimistic.  His optimism, however, was not an irrational hope, not hope for the sake of hope, not hope simply because it is the only other option besides despair.  Instead, the hope he was projecting was rooted in what happened in and leading up to the 2024 election.

President Trump won because he was the better candidate and built a coalition of names like Vivek Ramaswamy, Elon Musk, Tulsi Gabbard, RFK, Nicole Shanahan, and JD Vance, many of whom were not Republicans.  RFK’s endorsement was an historic moment and, given everything else, could be credited as one of the most significant moments in this election cycle and likely sealed the deal for President Trump.

With RFK joining the MAGA movement, he and Trump created the MAHA movement to Make America Healthy Again, which played a significant role in President Trump’s victory and one I think we need to capitalize on here in Cumberland County and in Maine.  The far left has seized control of the Democrat Party and created, as Elon puts it, “the woke mind virus.” The problem for the Democrats is that they’ve gone too far.  They are now losing their own voters, and it’s gotten to the point where those who would have been considered moderate Democrats are now right-wing conspiracy theorists (see Joe Rogan).

What’s fascinating to me is that the National Democrat Party is rumored to be discussing the need to move away from identity politics because they know they’re losing the culture war, but here in the State of Maine, they’re doubling down.  Nationally, the major issues that propelled President Trump forward were that there are only two genders, men shouldn’t be competing in women’s sports, abortion up until birth is bad, DEI is racist, Critical Race Theory is a Marxist ideology and has no place in our schools, Solar & Wind are bad for both the economy and the environment, Transgender treatment of minors is evil, Making America Healthy Again is common sense, illegal immigration is bad for our country, we need a secure border and we need economic policies that benefit Americans.

Despite the National Democrat Party looking to back away on some of these issues, the Maine Democrat Party believes it has such a stranglehold on power that they are doubling down.  They are refusing to recognize that Biden’s unconstitutional Title IX revisions have been struck down and are continuing to push gender transitions in minors and boys competing in girls’ sports in opposition to common sense and President Trump’s executive orders.  Just this week, Representative Laurel Libby posted that two years ago, a boy by the name of John finished 5th in the class B state championship for boys, and this year, “Katie,” the same person, won 1st place in the girls class B state championship. With this, we’ve garnered national attention, and President Trump publicly declared that he is going to shut down all federal funding to Maine until we comply with his executive order banning males from competing in women’s sports.

Bobby Charles’s hope and optimism are built on the belief that what happened in the US elections of 2024 can and will happen here in Maine in 2026.  The Democrat’s policies are destroying lives, stealing opportunities, and leading to the financial ruin of many.  The Maine Democrats will soon learn the painful lesson their national counterparts learned this last election cycle when, in 2026, we the people, push back using the same issues that helped Trump win in 2024.  We need to build a coalition that includes unenrolled, moderate Democrats, Libertarians, etc., and we will do that by focusing on these winning issues that not only won nationally but I also believe can propel us to victory in 2026.  As the Maine Democrats continue to push these radical ideologies, we must be sure to keep telling the stories about the impacts of their policies and ideologies.  These issues can help us win here in Cumberland County, and if we win in Cumberland County, we can win the state, but we can’t do it without you!  Reach out and stay tuned to learn more about how we’re going to take our state back!
