State Senator Eric Brakey

Aug 8, 2018

Eric is running for US Senate, this November!

Eric Brakey is the State Senator for District 20 in the Maine Senate, which includes his residence of Auburn as well as New Gloucester, Poland, Minot, and Mechanic Falls. He serves as the Senate Chairman for the Health and Human Services Committee.   Winning election in 2014, he defeated incumbent Democrat Senator John Cleveland with 59% of the vote.

He gained statewide recognition for his role as the State Director for the 2012 Ron Paul Presidential Campaign, which resulted in Ron Paul supporters winning a majority of delegate seats to the 2012 Republican National Convention, and winning key seats on the Maine Republican State Committee and National Committee.

Following his work on the Ron Paul Presidential Campaign, he co-founded the Defense Of Liberty PAC (along with David Boyer), a citizens’ group whose mission is to promote “Free People and Free Markets” in the Maine legislature, which terminated operations in 2014.

Eric Brakey is a resident of Auburn, with five generations of family roots in the town of New Gloucester.

Eric works professionally as a Financial Record Manager for Brakey Energy, a family-run business that consults with industrial clients to lower energy costs and increase energy efficiency. He holds a college degree in Theatre Performance and has spent several years working as a professional actor.

In his spare time, Eric’s favorite hobby is acting with the Lewiston/Auburn Community Little Theater (LACLT), where he recently performed the roles of Felix Ungar in “The Odd Couple,” Brother Maynard in Monty Python’s “Spamalot,” and Mortimer Brewster in “Arsenic and Old Lace.”

As an involved member of the community, Eric Brakey mentors a child in Auburn through “Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Androscoggin County.” He and his Little Brother enjoy doing fun activities together. Whether bowling at Sparetime Recreation in Lewiston or fishing in Poland’s Upper Range Pond, the two of them always manage to have a fun time.

As an active member of the community, Eric is active with Young Professionals of the Lewiston/Auburn Area (YPLAA), a networking organization for young professionals. He recently participated in the 2013 and 2014 YPLAA “Y-Not?” Community Scavenger Hunt.

In 2012, Eric Brakey served as the Maine State Director for the Ron Paul Presidential Campaign, leading a tidal wave of grassroots supporters to victory at the 2012 Maine Republican Convention. Currently, he volunteers as the Chairman for Defense of Liberty, a citizens’ group that promotes “Free People and Free Markets” in the Maine Legislature.

Eric attends church at East Auburn Baptist in Auburn, ME.
