About
Demi

Demi Kouzounas is running for U.S. Senate.

Born and raised in Maine, Demi was the first born of hard-working Greek immigrants. Demi attended Thornton Academy and by the age of 14, worked at her parents’ restaurant in Old Orchard Beach during the summer. Being the first in her family to attend college, she graduated from the University of Maine at Orono and then Tufts University, earning a Doctorate in Dentistry. Following graduation, Demi and her husband, Joe, both served overseas in Germany as Officers in the U.S. Army.

When Demi and Joe returned to Maine with their first child, they established two successful dental practices serving the general public, veterans, and families in need. Along with church and community volunteering, Demi was a co-founder of ‘Dentists Who Care for Maine’ and facilitated the start of ‘Bright Smiles,’ a children’s dental program. She also donated her time, making nine trips to the Dominican Republic with the Saco Baptist Church to treat the Haitian migrant workers.

Demi also served as President of the Maine Dental Association, advocating before the Maine Legislature for better dental care, especially in Rural Maine. Demi is still involved with a non-profit out of Mass General to improve oral care for our elderly population in nursing homes.

Continuing to stay involved in the public sector, Demi was elected as Chair of the Maine GOP, serving for three terms. During this time, she remained committed to her continued work for better dental care in Maine. She also served as the Republican National Committee Northeast Co-Chair. Under her strong leadership, national relationships were forged, raising the focus on Maine and Republican candidates. During Demi’s tenure, she improved candidate recruitment and successfully increased fundraising to an unprecedented level.

Demi summed up her decades of dedication and service to others by saying, “I didn't do anything for honors, but only for what I believe in."

Demi has two married children and three beautiful granddaughters with Joe, to whom she has been married for 45 years.

The mission of the Cumberland County Republican Committee is to recruit, train, elect and support Republican candidates in the interest of Cumberland County.
